After a couple of weeks of inoperable photoshop and a ridiculous number of unsuccessful installations, I've finally got a working Adobe Suite again. Needless to say, I've been putting in overtime on photoshop. Here's the latest stuff I've been working on. I'm probably heading back to SD on Sunday and start work Tuesday, which I'm really excited for. It's shaping up to be a great summer.
Finally starting to get back in the swing of training. Went for a nice 45 minute run out towards torrey pines. Gotta love running with a full view of the ocean and a beautiful sunset 90% of the time. I've been looking into running with some local groups this summer, it's just easier to do long runs when you're with other people. Had my interview today, I felt like it went pretty well, and I really like Mitch and the whole team. Should hear back early next week, so I'm crossing my fingers. Being around Mitch really got me thinking about doing a triathlon again, I've been toying around with the idea for years, but never actually took the leap. We'll see what happens this summer, I'm just going to start upping my mileage now, but I think I'll start throwing in some swim and bike workouts. Finals next week, ugh.
Designed this while procrastinating in the library. It would be sweet to have a jersey like this for next year, at least for ICE. It would have to be sublimated, not screen printed so I'm going to look into that. Not much has been going on, school or design wise. Got an interview with the company that runs Active.com and Triathlete magazine on Friday, so hope that goes well. The guy who owns it is an incredible triathlete/entrepreneur, it would be cool to work with him. Finals next week, gotta think of an essay topic for lit theory and start studying for everything else. Started really training again last week, I think I'm going to go for 17 flat-ish for 5K on Aug. 16th at America's Finest City race. Back to the grind now. Peace.

I haven't posted anything in a while so i figured it was about time. I've been working on a proposal to redesign ucsd's signage and wayfinding system cause it sucks. These are some 3d mockups I did last week. They're incomplete, and I've got pages and pages of other designs but I haven't rendered them yet. The proposal is at around 10 pages and not even close to being done. I really think that UCSD just needs a new campus improvement office to handle aesthetic changes around campus that would really spice up the university. There are a couple of idea's I've got for that kind of stuff too. If I have the time I'll try and do some photoshop stuff in that vein. peace.
Had my interview for the Outback store today. I think it went pretty well, now I've just got to hope that it went better than the other 70 people that applied. Should probably know by the end of this week. Drew up the wave design this weekend, kind of an Eastern inspired thing, simple but looks pretty cool. I might submit a more polished version as an iPhone cover or something. And then the old picture of me, i was bored this afternoon and looking at old pictures. I think it was from a party that I was dressed as Kevin Federline.
Spring break is coming to a close, but I'm happy to go back to san diego. Not necessarily for school, but I'd rather hang in sd than at home. Did some more sketching today and made this album art for a trance artist named alex m.o.r.p.h. Maybe it'll get used, who knows. It would be amazing to see it on an actual cd cover. I've been listening to his stuff, and it's pretty good...I haven't listened to any electronic music in a while. Heading back to school tomorrow morning. Peace.
Working on some stuff in this style over spring break. It's a work in progress, but I think that it would look cool on a hat or shirt or something. It says UCSD if you can't tell. Got to work on keeping the abstract style but still keeping it readable. Some people have been able to read it, and some not. Hopefully I'll have a few more designs like this up soon, they're just sooo time consuming.
I went to huntington beach yesterday because the day started off pretty cloudy and I was hoping that there would be a sweet sunset. Unfortunately, it got really windy later in the day and all the clouds got blown inland. Still managed to get some cool pictures near the pier. I love being close to the beach when I'm at home and being even closer when I'm at school.

photoshop i did in high school of me. totally won this race btw.
So it's FINALLY spring break and I'm grateful for the time to just relax and not worry about school. Probably going to use the time to do some photography, maybe play some ultimate and do some design. I decided during finals week that I really need to get back in real shape. I'd like to be able to run a sub 17:00 3-mile again and get back in climbing shape if I take that road trip through Yosemite and maybe up to Vancouver this summer. Plus, I've just lost so much muscle since this summer. Spring is finally here! Even though it's been here for a while in so cal.

Totally killed my computing final today. 50 questions in ten minutes, I maybe missed two. Been studying for my big programming final tomorrow, it really sucks having one final every day until break. I just want to take them all and get it over with. Played some pickup today with a bunch of grad students and a few squids; I forgot one of my cleats (don't ask me how) and had to wear one of the guys sneakers, which makes it really hard to cut. But it was a good study break.
So I seriously think that I do my best design when there are a million other things I should be doing. This might be my favorite piece of photography/design that I've ever done.
Working on this really cool fractal effect in photoshop. I used a picture of me climbing on Turtle Dome that Jacob took. Spent most of today studying for finals, my programming one is going to kill me. Can't wait for spring break to be here.
Well, im done with classes for this quarter, so naturally I use my time to study, right? How about not. I applied to work for the Outback gear shop on campus this week and decided to do some design and send it to them, maybe give me a little advantage. Not that I need help, I feel like I've got pretty incredible credentials to work at an outdoor gear shop. Anyways, here's what I came up with today instead of studying.
I have to say that Into the Wild is one of my favorite movies ever. Maybe it's the idea of escaping from the confines of society and living on the edge, or maybe it's just the thrill of leaving behind everything you know and not knowing your destination. I'll be completely honest...I could see myself doing the same thing as Chris McCandless. Perhaps not to the same extent, but I can feel the smoldering fire of adventure within me that drives me to spend so much time in the outdoors.
Two years he walks the earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes. Ultimate freedom. An extremist. An aesthetic voyager whose home is the road. Escaped from Atlanta. Thou shalt not return, 'cause "the West is the best." And now after two rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure. The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage. Ten days and nights of freight trains and hitchhiking bring him to the Great White North. No longer to be poisoned by civilization he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost in the wild. — Alexander Supertramp May 1992
So I've been listening to the song "Hard Sun" by Eddie Vedder on repeat all day because it reminds me of Yosemite. So I've been perusing my pictures from this summer and did some touch-up work on some off them and thought I'd post them. Enjoy!

So, I woke up from a nap today and checked my email, and guess what?? I won the 6dollarshirts contest! My shirt is going to get printed! I'm so stoked right now. Sent them a high res version and they're supposed to get back to me with $250 and &100 store credit. Awesome. http://6dollarshirts.com/submit_a_design.php?view=gallery&type=winners listed as I can't see shit.
I've been checking out this website called 99designs, which is a resource for companies looking for graphic designers to do logos, shirts, websites, and various print. I submitted a logo design for the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Integrative Neuroscience, my first submission on the site.

working on some t-shirt designs today. It was a nice long day of doing pretty much nothing after an exhausting weekend. Submitted this one to Threadless and teefury. I'll post links for voting if it gets approved by Threadless, which would be really amazing, or if it gets featured on TeeFury, which would be just as cool. The guy wearing the shirt is just a template, not anyone i know.
I saw my first real published design on display today, which was pretty cool. I got second place in a contest to design a poster for Warren College. It was a great feeling to see my work on display in Price Center, but at the same time it encourages me to work harder so next time I'm the featured design, not second place. Here's a picture I took with my cell phone, and a copy of the original.
So, I decided to make a blog today. I made a website yesterday because whenever I went to talk to people about working in some type of design related environment they always asked me if I had a portfolio online. So now I have a website and a blog(krfrost.blogspot.com). I'm not really expecting anyone to read this, but I feel like it will still help me to grow as a designer, even if I never plan to design professionally. (keep in mind I've only been really designing since late december '08) Woohoo!
